5 Cricketers who left RCB and did well for other franchises
Royal Challengers Bangalore is one team that has failed to clinch the IPL Trophy despite having every sort of benefit in their squad. Over the years, Bangalore has hosted some of the finest players in the world and yet struggled to get their hands on the precious trophy. One of the aspects where RCB falls back is the lack of trust and confidence they show in the players when they are having a low season.
Over the years, the management has believed in switching and experimenting with players. The ones who are having a great time are immediately taken up, while others who failed to perform are dropped in no time. As a result, there have been many players who left RCB and performed well for other franchises.
5. KL Rahul
The RCB bagged the extraordinary batsmen in the year 2016 when he showed great form in Test cricket. Rahul plied his trade too well for the team in the same but had to miss the entire 2017 season due to an injury. When the auction for 2018 IPL arrived, RCB didn’t back this gem and instead went with Sarfaraz Khan. He was snapped by KXIP in 2018 and showed some sensational form by scoring 659 runs in 2018 and 593 runs in the 2019 season.
4. Quinton de Kock
De Kock was roped in by RCB in the 2018 season for a handsome amount of INR 2.8 crores but didn’t get enough games with the team. The overseas combination could not settle well for the team, and as a result, he remained on the bench for many matches. He was expected to get a better chance in 2019 but was shockingly traded to Mumbai Indians. The wicket-keeper batsman remained the highest scorer of MI by scoring 529 runs at the end of the 2019 season.
3. Dinesh Karthik
Another wicket-keeper batsman Dinesh Karthik was brought in by RCB in the year 2015 for a whopping INR 10.5 crores. However, he failed to perform that season and ended scoring only 141 runs in 11 matches. In the very next year, RCB released him and he was snapped by Gujarat Lions. He remained with the new franchise for two years and scored 300 plus runs each year. In 2018, he was picked by KKR, and he had a dream season by amassing 498 runs in 16 matches.
2. Moises Henriques
Though Henriques has never remained in the limelight, he has developed himself as a decent all-rounder in the T20 format. RCB got him in the year 2013, and he scored 165 runs along with naming ten dismissals to his name. However, the management didn’t feel like holding him for long and released him. SRH got him in 2014, and he couldn’t do much in the same season. However, in 2015-17, he scored 287, 182, and 277 runs and scalped a total of 23 wickets.
1. Shane Watson
Watson has always been regarded as one of the MVP’s of the cash-rich league since its inception. He spent the maximum time of his career with Rajasthan Royals before being traded to RCB in 2016. He was roped in at a huge sum of 9.5 crores and couldn’t flaunt his best skills with the bat in that season. He continued with RCB next year but was taken by CSK in 2018. With Men in Yellow, he has been no less than phenomenal, and his heroics in the 2019 finale against MI with the bloodied knee will be a show to remember forever.
