4 batsmen to hit a four off every ball in a Test match over

Test cricket

There is something about an aggressive batsman which endears him to the crowd. Cricket after all, along with being a sport, is also a form of entertainment for the masses. It was on the back of this belief that the idea of T20 cricket was conceptualized. There have been many batsmen who on the back of their explosive hitting prowess have become popular figures in the game. While it’s a common phenomenon in T20 cricket, here are 4 batsmen who hit a four off every delivery in an over in Test cricket.

Chris Gayle

Before becoming a master of T20 cricket, Chris Gayle was a vital cog in the West Indian Test team, giving them aggressive starts as an opener. In 2004, Gayle took the attack to English swing bowler Matthew Hoggard, hitting all of his six deliveries for fours.

Ramnaresh Sarwan

Ramnaresh Sarwan emulated Chris Gayle’s feat a couple of years later against India in 2006. Sarwan took the attack to a young Munaf Patel, regarded as India’s fast bowling prodigy at the time. It was Munaf’s 5th Test at the time and Sarwan made full use of his inexperience, hitting him for a four in all of his six deliveries in an over.

Sanath Jayasuriya

Test cricket

Be it ODI or Test cricket, Sanath Jayasuriya always had one single intent – to hit the bowlers out of the park. In 2007, he targeted a young James Anderson in a Test match in England hitting a four off every delivery in his over. It was a steep learning curve for Anderson who would later become a master of his craft and develop as one of the greatest pacers of all-time.

Sandeep Patil

Sandeep Patil was an extremely popular figure back in India due to his dashing good looks and his aggressive style of play. He became the first batsman in history to hit a four in every delivery of an over, with his target being the legendary pacer Bob Willis. The feat was accomplished in 1982 in the second Test match of the series at Old Trafford in Manchester.
