3 oldest bowlers to make IPL debut
Making a debut in any format and in any competition at an older age is a rarity. Especially in the T20 format, where fresh legs and young blood are the need of the hour, players appearing for the first time aged over 35 is not something that one sees often. In the Indian Premier League (IPL), few bowlers have featured after crossing that age mark in their respective careers.
Let’s take a look at the 3 oldest bowlers to make their debut in the IPL:
Sunil Joshi (38y 317d)
Slow left-arm orthodox bowler Sunil Joshi is the third oldest bowler to make their debut in the IPL aged 38y 317d. He played only four matches in his career, with all of them coming for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in 2008. The spinner appeared in the first-ever match of the tournament on the opening night against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and he delivered a spell of 0/26 in three overs.
Brad Hogg (41y 65d)
Left-arm wrist spinner Brad Hogg is the second oldest bowler to debut in the tournament. The Australian played his first match for Rajasthan Royals (RR) against Mumbai Indians (MI) in the 2012 season aged 41y 65d. The spinner bowled a good spell of 2/31 in four overs in which he took wickets of Rohit Sharma and Richard Levi.
Pravin Tambe (41y 211d)
Pravin Tambe is the oldest bowler ever to feature in the history of the cash-rich competition. The leg-break bowler marked his debut for RR against Delhi Capitals in the 2013 edition at the age of 41y 211d. Spin bowler Tambe bowled a tidy spell of no wicket for 30 runs in four overs in Jaipur as his side won the match by nine wickets.
