3 Current Indian batsmen with centuries in each innings of a Test match

Rohit

Scoring a hundred in Test matches is certainly a dream for many batters across the globe. However, runs in this format don’t come easy with the red ball possessing a greater threat than the white one. While fast bowlers get swing and bounce from the new ball, spinners come in action as the game progresses. Moreover, in international cricket, the most skilled bowlers from a nation are in action.

Nevertheless, there have been many batters who overcame these challenges and scored runs in whites. As far as modern-day Test cricket is concerned, it won’t be much wrong to say that India has the strongest batting line-up. From Cheteshwar Pujara to Virat Kohli, there are several batters who have piled up a mountain of runs.

These players also have scored many hundreds in whites. However, there are also some Indian batters holding the record of scoring twin hundreds in a Test match. This is certainly an astonishing feat as pitches tend to deteriorate as the game progresses. Hence, registering tons in the latter half of the game isn’t a bread and butter task.

Here’s a look at three current Indian cricketers who have scored centuries in each innings of a Test match

 Virat Kohli

Virat Kohli

This name shouldn’t surprise anyone. Kohli achieved this feat in the first Test of India’s 2014-15 tour of Australia. Interestingly, it was Kohli’s first game as Test captain and he made the occasion even more special by scoring twin centuries in Adelaide. He scored runs for fun as the likes of Mitchell Johnson and Ryan Harris looked utterly clueless.  Kohli registered scores of 115 and 141 in that game but it couldn’t save India from a 48-run defeat.

Ajinkya Rahane

Kohli’s deputy Ajinkya Rahane also features on this list. It was the fourth Test of South Africa’s 2015 tour of India, and the venue was Delhi. With the track favouring spinners, bowlers of both teams were on a roll. However, Rahane had some different plans. On a pitch where others struggled to put the bat on the ball, the star batsman scored not one but two centuries. He scored 124 and 106 as India comfortably won that game by 337 runs.

Rohit Sharma

Veteran Indian batter Rohit Sharma got the milestone in his very first Test as an opener. Facing the likes of Kagiso Rabada and Vernon Philander in the first Test of South Africa’s 2019 tour of India, Rohit didn’t seem under any sort of pressure. He slammed fours and sixes all over the park as the visitors never seemed in the hunt. Coming to his scores, the dasher registered 176 and 127 as the hosts comfortably won the contest by 203 runs.
